The Team zEx Logo

Team zEx, was an international electronic sports club with players that competed in Counter-Strike 1.6 and Counter-Strike: Source competitions, and formerly fielded teams in Call of Duty and Quake. Formed in 2000, zEx quickly established a name for itself in the gaming community via hard work and determination and was being operated by the club's managing director, Naveen "insomn1a" Gavini. Team zEx was consisted of some of the world's most talented players, which led them to become one of the more well known professional gaming teams. Team zEx's corporate sponsors ranged from Kingston, Sennheiser Communications and Pure Voice Communications. On June 12th 2007, Team zEx was selected by former member Brian "destrukt" Flander with the 40th pick in the Championship Gaming Series draft as the taxi team for the Chicago Chimera.

"Team zEx" officially shut down in September 2007, retiring the zEx brand and releasing the remaining Counter-Strike members. Many former Team zEx members are still competing at the highest of levels in eSports.

Etymology

The founding members of Team zEx had lots of fun playing Counter-Strike and were looking for a name for their competitive team. They came up with the name "zebra Extreme" and they decided to incorporate this as their team name. This has since been changed and the team had refered to itself as Team zEx, stating that this is their name, and not an abbreviation for the original name. As a token to history and the founding members, the team logo has zebra stripes in the center of the crest.
