Interp
From GotFrag eSports Wiki
Interp Short for interpolation, is a client side command (cvar) which effects Counter-Strike's netcode in both a negative way, which is considered to be cheating in some leagues, or a positive way. In the HL1 engine the command is ex_interp, default being 0.1. However, most people and leagues believe that 0.01 should be used with standard rates.
First controversy
Interp was first used by the Finnish players from clan z and clan a in combination with a few other netcode commands. The first time interp was in the news was during CPL Holland when attending Counter-Strike players noticed that the models on the screens of the Finnish players moved in a different way than usual. The models didn't move in a fluent way but instead seemed to move with low frames per seconds. A big controversy was started as almost noone understood what the commands actually did and what advantages or disadvantages were related to the commands in question.
Center of attention
Later a lot of articles were written about the commands the first articles were written by members of the Finnish teams in question but also Andreas "bds" Thorstensson wrote a much discussed article about the now infamous netcode settings.
Common use
With the release of newer versions of Counter-Strike and the evolution of the netcode it is advised for people who play on public servers with custom rates to use "ex_interp 0". Thanks to Valve one can now simply use the value 0 which lets the game engine calculate the desired ex_interp based on your other netcode settings.
For competitive play it is still advised to force "ex_interp 0.01" in your config.
