About GameSurge

GameSurge is a gaming community build around an IRC network. It is built with the collective experience of members of the gaming community and irc community. GameSurge is a Non-Profit organization which is well structured for growth with the intent on providing quality services for the gaming community and industry.

GameSurge is consistently in the top 10 IRC Networks by users currently online[1][2].

Mission Statement

GameSurge is a non-profit organization that provides an online gaming community for computer users around the world. The community is built around real-time chat and grows outward from there.

History

GameSurge began as a domain hijack conspiracy from founder, Donald Wasylyna.[3] The domain hijack came to an end after a U.S. Federal lawsuit was filed claiming hijacking of the domain, resulting in GamesNET as Wasylyna's network. Wasylyna has failed to convince law enforcement to prosecute charges of wire fraud etc as documented by the hijacker's discovery linked earlier.

GameSurge was created as a result of misleading the hijacked GamesNET users in February 2004 and attempted to cloud the situation by announcing a merger with the ProGamePlayer Network, a network with common interests.[citation needed].

At present day, the user base of GameSurge is primarily North American, with a growing number of English-speaking gamers from Europe. The user base contains a large number of clans who participate in a wide variety of games. Among the more popular games on GameSurge are Counter-Strike: Source, Counter-Strike, Day of Defeat, and Call of Duty.

Services

GameSurge runs a feature-rich package of services known as srvx, which was written by GameSurge's development staff from scratch in C.

GameSurge provides four user-accessible services:

  • AuthServ, which provides authentication for other services on the network and allows users to use an account that allows them to maintain channel access. In the interests of providing a service directed toward gaming (and thus allowing users to easily switch clan/team/guild tags), GameSurge does not provide nick registration.
  • ChanServ, which provides facilities such as event logging and advanced user/ban management.
  • HelpServ bots, which manage support requests in certain channels via a FIFO queue.
  • HelpServ, in the #support channel, for general user support.
  • Other HelpServ bots in miscellaneous help channels throughout the network.
  • HostServ, which provides free "titles" to users wishing to use cloaked hosts. See the GameSurge Titles page for details.
  • Ringing Riot bots can be found in #GoronCity, they help to find you teams to ring for.
