The Fnatic Team is a professional video gaming team, consisting of players from across the globe who all make a living through competing in video game tournaments. The Fnatic Team won the ESPORTS TEAM OF THE YEAR AWARD 2006 and are the current reigning CPL CHAMPIONS.

The Fnatic team is an ambitious and al the Swedish player Mikael "zaffe" Säflund joined fnatic as the team's permanent fifth player[1]. The team then ventured to CPL Singapore 2005 for the Counter-Strike side tournament at the World Tour stop. There, with the aide of Harley "dsn" Örwall who stood in for Rihai, fnatic secured first place. There was significant controversy surrounding this tournament as wNv was disqualified on the final map of the grand finals for having a different interp than was required.[2]. Following the team's success in Singapore, Örwall joined the team on a permanent basis replacing Rihai. Their next event would be CPL Winter 2005 where placed 13-16th[3].

To start the new year fnatic removed every player from their old lineup with the exception of Örwall. To replace the removed players, fnatic added a mixture of rising stars and seasoned veterans: the rising star Oscar "Archi" Torgersen, from the Swedish team Gamers of the North, Kristoffer "Tentpole" Nordlund and Patrik "f0rest" Lindberg, from Begrip Gaming with whom they placed first at WEG Season 2 and 6th at CPL Winter 2005, and Patrik "cArn" Sättermon, Örwall’s teammate from Gamers.nu, Begrip and EYEballers.[4]

This new team amassed a number of accomplishments throughout the first half of 2006, including second at shgOpen 2006, second at WSVG Sweden, second at ESWC 2006, third at the Intel Summer Championships. They stumbled in China taking fifth at both WSVG China 2006 and the KODE5 2006 Finals but recovered nicely in United States taking third at the WSVG 2006 Finals and first at CPL Winter 2006 over Meet Your Makers' Norwegian team.

Nordlund was rumored to be retiring from competitive CS following CPL Winter 2006[5]. He left the team in mid-January of 2007; according to fnatic the travel requirements drained his motivation to play on an international level. To replace Nordlund, fnatic recruited the former NiP player Oskar "ins" Holm[6] and since has been on a tear. Throughout 2007, fnatic had to contend with a surging PGS Gaming from Poland. Time after time it was the Poles who prevented fnatic from taking the top spot on the podium. While still able to snag several of their own 1st place prizes, including GameGune 2007[7] where fnatic overcame PGS.

Fnatic only stumbled once this year at the recent WCG 2007 Finals in Seattle. The event which looked to be the ultimate decider of the PGS/fnatic rivalry turned into a fiasco as the top ranked fnatic tied the MiBR squad formerly known as g3x and succumbed to the hot and cold team from Korea e-STRO both on Dust2. They missed advancing from their group by five rounds[8].

At Extreme Masters LA, fnatic was vindicated where they took first place in a dominating fashion.

Counter-Strike: Source

History

The Counter Strike Source team representing team Fnatic is considered to be one of the top European teams. The team was previously ranked #1 on the top 10 list of the competitive gaming website cadred.org [[1]], published in November 2007. After disappointing results the team dropped down to the fifth position by the time Cadred.org released their second CS:S ranking in February 2008 [[2]]. In April 2008 Cadred.org released their third ranking with fnatic ranked as #8 in Europe [[3]]. The line-up consists of Dutch players, who have played together for over a year now. Mark "AirRaid" Koks is the tactician of the team as well as a rifle player. Quint "Blaze" Spierenburg and Luuk "darky" Verinkhandle rifles as well. Milan "xertion" Veeger is a very versatile player, who plays with the AWP and with rifles alike and finally Sondor "proph" de Munck is considered to be the top AWP player in Europe at the age of 17.

The team has competed in several LANs across Europe, recently winning LAN79, i30, i31, SLAP LAN and placing 2nd in the CGS combine (They weren't drafted though) and Digitalsace.

The team tried to get into the CGS, but had to play with Rutger "ylSs" Smeding instead of proph, as he was too young to compete. Team NoA was picked over them. After the CGS combine, proph returned to the line-up.

On November 6th, 2007, they moved up from the Fnatic Academy to become a professional Fnatic team.

On February 10th, 2008, the team announced ylSs his return to the team by replacing Blaze, who would take the role of sixth player due to his new job and the lack of motivation. Later on March 17th, 2008, fnatic announced the most likely temporarily return of Blaze combined with the retirement of ylSs due to his focus on a new study [[4]].

Quake

History

Cypher is the youngest player currently in Fnatic, and the only player from Belarus, but definately not the least talented. At only 16 he competed at the ESWC 2006 Quake 4 competition and surprised all as he took out the two favourites, Cooler and Toxic in 2 straight sets ending up finished 2nd. An extremely strong addition to our quake 4 squad who made several big showings at the end of 2006. Cypher is looking forward to dominate in 2007.

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare

History

On January 22nd, 2008, fnatic announced the addition of an all Swedish Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare team, becoming the third G7 organization with a team in this latest installment of the Call of Duty series after PGS and SK Gaming.

The team has a long history in the Call of Duty series starting out in Call of Duty 2 as team fukyuu and later on Svea Royale. The team gained various achievements during their Call of Duty 2 carreer including winning the second edition of the Wonderbase event and the July edition of the online competition called the CODQCUP. The teams original venture into the Call of Duty 4 scene was under the banner of Swedish gaming organization EYEBALLERS, which they joined on November 22th, 2007. During their time in EYEBALLERS the team gained various promising results, like winning the Crossfire Qpad Cup [Crossfire CoD4 Qcup Fixtures], leading to the move to fnatic on January 22th, 2008 [All Fnatical About Call of Duty 4].

The first major achievement as fnatic team was winning the Crossfire Devotii Challenge 4 in Enschede, The Netherlands. During the finals the opponent of fnatic was the team then known as The Last Resort, who took second place. The next major event for the fnatic Call of Duty 4 team was the Multiplay i33 in Newbury, United Kingdom. In advance of the event fnatic announced the addition of Rickard 'zEm' Intveld to replace Jonny 'klanne' Wahlqvist in the main lineup (klanne would continue as backup player) on March 10th, 2008 [zEm! back in black (..and orange)]. While the team was one of the favourites to win the competition losses in the winners bracket versus The Last Resort and Team Evil Geniusses causes the team to end up with a respectable, but rather unexpected, fourth position.

On April 8th, 2008, international gaming community website GotFrag released the first edition of their European Call of Duty 4 rankings, where the fnatic team is ranked second after the former The Last Resort team [Call of Duty: MYM top GotFrag European Rankings], who by then joined Meet Your Makers.

After ending fourth at the Multiplay i33 new changes in the lineup were made. On April 10th, 2008, fnatic announced the return of team captain Martin 'MintR' Röjder replacing Jonny 'klanne' Wahlqvist and the addition of Johan 'Linqan' Lindqvist with Mikael 'zsilts' Smedberg going inactive [Fnatic.CoD4 change].
